Alyssa Harlow, PhD, MPH, assistant professor of clinical population and public health sciences, joins the Division of Health Behavior Research in the Department of Population and Public Health Sciences.

Harlow’s research program aims to examine patterns, socioecological determinants, and health effects of tobacco use, substance use, and other health behaviors, with the goal of informing strategic interventions and policy changes. Her research integrates rigorous epidemiologic methods with addiction science, and much of her work involves longitudinal analyses of large national and regional prospective cohort studies on substance use and behavioral health. An important focus of Harlow’s research is identifying regulatory targets that can be intervened upon through policy or prevention programs to improve public health.
