Research and Specialization

• Identify the genetic causes of childhood cancer, and the ancestral factors that differentiate risks among our ethnically diverse California population.

• Explore the unique combinations of maternal pregnancy and childhood developmental factors that contribute to childhood cancer risk.

• Identify the environmental risk factors (chemical exposures, diet, infection) that increase risk, and the interaction of inherited genes and environment.

• Work closely with clinical collaborators at the USC-affiliated and largest children’s hospital west of the Mississippi, Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles.

• Examine the risks and timing of subsequent cancer, late effects and premature mortality among survivors of childhood cancer

• Assess biomedical and sociodemographic determinants of survivorship care for childhood cancer patients.

• Leverage the size and depth of data on California state cancer incidence and long-term outcomes.
